Whale Watching on the California Coast
July 06
If you’re a first-time visitor to California and have never been on a whale watching tour, you’re in for a real treat. Located just a half-hour’s drive from the Cortona Inn & Suites, Newport Landing offers several different whale-watching excursions to accommodate you, your family, and your friends.
The basic package will put your party and several others on a mid-size boat to scan the waves for humpback whales, gray whales, finback whales, giant blue whales, minke whales, dolphins, and more. You can also opt for the Captain’s Seating package, which will secure you one or more of the six spaces near the captain’s quarters during the cruise. This also means the captain will be your personal guide. Finally, you can opt to rent a private boat and captain of your own for a private tour that accommodates two to six guests. Each tour lasts two hours and sets sail three times daily, seven days a week, all year long.
Address: 309 Palm St. #A, Newport Beach, CA 92661

A History of Anaheim
April 06
Many people credit Walt Disney with putting Anaheim on the map by establishing Disneyland® Resort in 1955. But the real origins of our well-planned city start far before the 1950s.
In 1857, a group of German immigrants settled in the area and formed a colony on 1,165 acres. The name Anaheim has a meaning: "ana" refers to the Santa Ana River and "heim" means home in German. This group of immigrants cultivated the land for grapes, and within just a decade they created what was then California’s wine capital, with 47 wineries and scores of vineyards.
In the 1880s, plant plagues killed off most of the vines, and residents switched to growing oranges. Native Yaqui from Mexico and Chinese immigrants arrived to work on the orange groves, further diversifying the community.
Anaheim was content with citrus crops until 1955, when the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway and Disneyland® Resort opened. The city immediately invested in tourism. Now, the Anaheim Convention Center and Edison International Field draw millions of visitors annually.
